BT makes VoIP easy for Carriers and Resellers in Germany

BT Germany has announced at CeBIT that it is launching a new reseller platform for Voice over IP:“BT Wholesale VoIP”.
 
The BT solution permits the assignment of phone numbers to the VoIP subscribers – either from the respective local network or from the 032 path – and to forward VoIP calls into the fixed or mobile network. This eliminates the requirement for resellers to operate their own gateway into the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Since BT also handles the routing of emergency calls, the offering addresses subscribers who do not want a traditional connection to the fixed telephone network and are e.g. connected to the Internet via the TV cable.

“There is a booming demand for Voice over IP – consumers and business customers alike want to benefit from the advantages of the technology. For Internet providers or city carriers, it is practically a must to offer such services,” says Lothar Geuenich, Global Telecom Markets (GTM) Country Manager Germany. “However, it involves a high effort for providers to implement attractive features such as the termination of VoIP calls into the fixed network or the assignment of geographical numbers. With BT Wholesale VoIP, we have considerably facilitated the entry into this market .”

With BT Wholesale VoIP, subscribers can be reached from the fixed and mobile network under a distinctive number and can themselves call not only other VoIP subscribers but also users of traditional lines in national and international fixed and mobile networks. To enable the billing of such calls, BT supplies the VoIP provider with the corresponding data (CDRs) on a daily basis. BT Wholesale VoIP is also an ideal solution for call centre operators who already use IP-enabled PBXes and want to migrate their voice traffic completely to IP.
